Vote for your Heisman Candidate

I think Reggie Bush deserves the Heisman. USC would have lost a couple games if it weren't for his game-breaking plays throughout the year. Vince Young is a close second in my opinion because he has Texas playing at a level that they have not been at in years. In addition, Young led Texas over Oklahoma, which obviously has not happened in a long time. Then in third place, I am going to vote for DeAngelo Williams because he is from Memphis, and I like to support players from home. Williams also stayed for his senior year and would probably be #1 in the NCAA instead of #2 in rushing yards if he had stayed healthy enough to play in every game. Vote @ VoteForHeisman.com

T-Zones, Motorola v330, and Apple Powerbook = Internet Access

This is a little tutorial about how to use the $5/month T-Zones plan, an Apple Powerbook running Tiger, and a Motorola v330 (any Motorola phone with GPRS and Bluetooth will work) to access pretty much everything on the Internet via proxy. You can also get the $20/month T-Zones service and get access to everything without a proxy. I would like to credit Mike Chambers with his info that got this all working for me originally on my Motorola v600 and Panther (read this info for a v600 and AT&T here) Here is what you need to do:
  • Call T-Mobile and activate the $5/month T-Zones plan
  • Wait until it is activated(2hrs-3days wait)
  • Try to access T-Zones on the phone
  • Go to Ross Barkman's Modem Scripts page and download the Motorola GPRS Scripts
  • Move the "Motorola GPRS CID1" to ~/Library/Modem Scripts
  • Go to the Bluetooth Preference pane in System Preferences
  • Click on the "Set up New Device..." button
  • Check "Access the Internet..." and "...use GPRS"
  • Mobile Phone Setup 1
  • Choose the "Motorola GPRS CID1" Script
  • Go to Internet Connect and make sure you are connecting to "wap.voicestream.com" and leave account name or password
  • Internet Connect
  • Then choose the Network Pane in System Preferences and select the Bluetooth tab
  • Click the PPP Options button and check the "echo packets" and "header compression options" (Note: YMMV try leaving them unchecked and see which is better for you)
  • PPP Settings
  • Now finally change the Proxy settings to "216.155.165.50" port 8080 (it is T-Mobile's proxy, check at whois.net) for HTTP b/c port 80 is blocked on the $5 plan
  • Proxy
  • If you are having trouble leave comments

Internet Access @ 80mph

Driving down I-40 from Durham, NC to Memphis, TN to spend time with my family for Thanksgiving, I realized that I would not be able to make it back to Memphis in time to watch the Duke v Drexel basketball game. So I took my Motorola v330 and my Apple Powerbook out, connected via Bluetooth to my phone, and connected via T-Zones at EDGE speeds. It is reasons like this I pay the extra $5/month for T-Zones. I was watching the box score updates on Yahoo! Sports, but I thought there must be an online radio broadcast as well. So I sent an IM to my roommate John Erickson, he found the Drexel radio broadcast of the game. Unfortunately, Duke has sold out their radio broadcasts to XM radio and ESPN, so one has to pay money to listen to the games. Anyways, John transcoded the RealAudio stream on the fly and re-broadcasted it to me. So there I was somewhere between Nashville and Memphis, driving at 80mph down I-40, listening to a radio broadcast of Duke basketball. What could make life better?

Duke v Memphis

It is official Duke University vs University of Memphis for the 2005 Preseason NIT Tip-off Tournament championship game. I think Duke matches up well with Memphis and we are more talented on the bench. The reserve players are the ones that will make the biggest difference. Hopefully we can contain Memphis's star players in Darius Washington Jr and Rodney Carney. They will have problems defending Shelden Williams down in the post and JJ Redick outside as well.

Dilbert - Difficult Co-workers

Dilbert - Difficult Co-Workers This is funny because it is applicable to not only co-workers, but classmates as well. You all know what I am talking about.

Foxtrot - Backup

Foxtrot - Backup This Foxtrot comic reminds of all the people I know who have hard drive failures and never did backup. It just is a pain and takes too long for people to want to deal with.

Appian Interview

Appian This weekend I went up to Washington, DC to interview with Appian for a full-time position as a software engineer. They flew me up, interviewed me, and took me out to lunch. I even got to play some foosball in the lounge after lunch. Pretty good time. Afterwards, I took a cab to the Metro to meet my sister, Angela. I ate dinner with her at a Thai restaurant. We were pretty tired so we just went back to her apartment, watched 20/20, and went to sleep. We did do a charity walkathon really early in the morning, so going to sleep was probably the best idea. The next morning we woke up at 6:30am, went to L'Enfant Hotel to eat breakfast (part of the event), signed in, got our T-shirts, and started walking. After the walk, we saw a marching band from Eastside. I think they were from a high school, but I am not sure. When the marching band was done playing, we walked over to the Botanical Gardens because they was a plant that "smells like rotting carcass." I was intrigued, so we went. Interestingly enough, it also looks quite phallic. But my flight is boarding so I'll wrap up now.

18th Annual Help the Homeless Walkathon

This morning at 6:30am I woke up to participate in the 18th annual Help the Homeless Walkathon. It was kind of fun. I got to walk and talk with my sister and her friends.
