Grandcentral is my second favorite product from Google (Gmail is first).
Ever try to order something for delivery only to have the restaurant deny you because you have a long-distance cell phone as your only number? I have. It happened last night when I tried to order Pizza Hut (stuffed-crust pizza is delicious). So, I fired up my gmail to look up my Grandcentral number. It is a service from Google that gives you a phone number in an area you choose. You can then redirect calls to that number to any other number (I redirect to my cell phone). It also has a bunch of other features like voicemail that you can listen to online, different ringers (although I hate Verizon Ringback), switching phones during the call, and recording the call.
Features:
Screen Callers
Know who's calling and screen unknown callers
ListenIn
Hear why someone is calling before taking the call
Call Record
Record calls on the fly and access recordings online
Block Callers
Unwanted callers won't be able to reach you anymore
Notifications
Receive voicemail notifications via email or SMS
Ring Different Phones
One number that rings different phones based on who's calling
Greetings
Personalize your voicemail greetings by caller or group
RingShare
Go beyond the ring and choose ringback tones for your callers
WebCall Button
Let people call you from a web page without showing your number
CallSwitch
Switch phones in the middle of a call
Click2Call
Call from your addressbook and save your typing
Mobile Access
Visual voicemail for your mobile phone
I got this spam like letter in the mail telling me I could get $25 in free money.
It appears to be true. Apparently there was a class action lawsuit about companies (like Bank of America) charging too much for transaction fees involving foreign currency (example: using your credit/debit card in London).
The lawsuit is about the price cardholders of Visa-, MasterCard-, or Diners Club-branded payment cards were charged to make transactions in a foreign currency, or with a foreign merchant, between February 1, 1996 and November 8, 2006. Plaintiffs challenge how the prices of credit and debit/ATM card foreign transactions were set and disclosed, including claims that Visa, MasterCard, their member banks, and Diners Club conspired to set and conceal fees, typically of 1-3% of foreign transactions, and that Visa and MasterCard inflated their base exchange rates before applying these fees. The Defendants include Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Bank of America, Bank One/First USA, Chase, Citibank, MBNA, HSBC/Household, and Washington Mutual/Providian. They deny the Plaintiffs' claims and say they have done nothing wrong, improper, or unlawful. -- http://ccfsettlement.com/
