Salary Bracket

2008 Salary Bracket Duke made the Final Four in one of the few things that I care more about than college basketball, money. Duke lost to the eventual champion Stanford in the bracket. Payscale.com did their bracketology picks based on how much alumni make 5-15 years into their careers. The bracket isn't completely fair because Cornell has the #4 overall but had a tough matchup against Stanford in the first round. How the salary was calculated
  1. Identify the employees in our database who attended each university in the NCAA Men's bracket
  2. Select those who are 5 to 15 years into their careers: this is about 30 to 40 years old
  3. Calculate the median annual total cash compensation for the selected employees
The Top 4 in Salary
  1. Stanford ($113,000) - Wins it all!
  2. Notre Dame ($99,100) - Goes to the championship game
  3. Duke ($96,800)- Makes the final four (as usual; Go Blue Devils! :-)
  4. Cornell ($93,900)- Out in the first round to Stanford

Abortion Fantasy?

No Abortion Sign I just heard about this girl who has a twisted ambition. A girl, who is a lesbian and pro-choice (aka believes people should be able to have abortions), has an aspiration to have an abortion. Yes, you got that right. She wants to become pregnant on purpose, so that she can have an abortion. Here is a breakdown of the situation:
  1. Raise money through donations for her "cause"
  2. Become pregnant via artificial insemination
  3. Have an abortion to make a point
Sounds like a plan that doesn't really make sense, kind of like this other plan

Double date in Westfield, NJ (okay really Garwood, NJ)

My take: We had reservations for 8pm. We didn't get seated til 9pm. There are only like 15 tables, so the place isn't that big. I liked the inside decor, but the view outside is just of a street and the Shoprite Supermarket. We got a decent, free bottle of wine ($20 value) for waiting so long, but they charged us a $15 wine corking fee. My filet mignon wasn't bad, but the rice was undercooked. They have a great wine selection at reasonable prices, but the food and service definitely need some polish. I'd rate the service as shambles. They are nice, but it was like no one had any experience in a restaurant before.

NCAA Tournament - Opening Day

Most people call in sick for work, discreetly watch the games on their computer, or skip class today and tomorrow. I have to watch the games in HD and make sure my work on the scoreboards at ESPN.com are working as expected.

Wireless Network Appears Compromised

Wireless Compromised

Why does this happen? There is one thing I absolutely hate about Mac OS X (both Leopard and Tiger). Every now and then I get this random message that says, "The wireless network appears to have been compromised and will be disabled for about a minute." I get this alert box in the picture, then my WiFi on my Macbook Pro (MBP) stops working. The router doesn't get disabled because my xbox and desktop still work over WiFi. The MBP just won't connect back to my Buffalo WHR-G125 router that is running DD-WRT.

Let's say my wireless network has been compromised, which it hasn't, how the hell would disabling the wireless on my MBP help? How can I be sure that it hasn't been compromised? First, I have checked the connection logs on the web interface of my router, nothing but my laptop, xbox, and desktop. Second, I am using WPA2 security, which would take much more time/effort to crack than using the other open routers in my apartment complex. Ironically, I think using WPA2 is actually the problem. Apple needs to add some way to disable this "security" feature because I don't care if my router was compromised because I still want to use it!

UPDATE: VMware Fusion might cause this problem (see forum), not sure if this will fix my problem because I used to use Parallels Desktop and saw the error. Maybe a bridged virtual network adapter causes the problem.
